Con vida hasta la última jornada.
(De marzo’11 a mayo’11.)
Eliminados. Los reds no pasaban de octavos de la Europa League y se veían superados por el Sporting de Braga. Un gol de penalty le sirvió al combinado luso en la ida. En Anfield «Os Arsenalistas» que finalmente disputarían la final contra el Porto, aguantarían el resultado en un partido donde los de Dalglish recibieron sonadas críticas por su inoperancia y ausencia de ideas ofensivas. Siendo aquella noche el balón en largo para Carroll el único recurso.
Buen rollo. Era un hecho totalmente visible. El vestuario con la llegada de Dalglish recuperaba el buen ambiente y eso se podía apreciar en el dia a dia de los entrenamientos y en las celebraciones de los goles como éste de Luis Suárez al Sunderland, en el que el equipo celebró la paternidad recién estrenada de Lucas Leiva dias antes del partido.
Bigoleador. Andy Carroll ofreció su primera gran actuación en Anfield anotando dos goles al Manchester City en uno de los partidos más completos de esta temporada. Un trallazo seco desde fuera del área y un cabezazo en anticipación al defensa, servían al gigantón de Gateshead estrenarse como goleador con la zamarra red.
Emoción. Si algún detractor le quedaba a Rafa Benítez en Liverpool, la tarde del 15 de abril en la ceremonia del 22 aniversario de la conmemoración de la tragedia de Hillsborough, a muchos de ellos se le disipó la duda de que el ex-técnico del Liverpool, haya sentido y sienta como pocos el club y sus gentes. Rafa Benítez no pudo evitar las lágrimas al recibir el agradecimiento directo de las familias de las víctimas por su constante apoyo.
Reivindicación Lucas Leiva ha sido sin duda el jugador que más ha crecido y más ha mejorado su rendimiento en la presente temporada. Su madurez futbolística llegó justamente en una temporada harto difícil por las contínuas lesiones del principal eje organizador del equipo. Steven Gerrard. El brasileño con su rendimiento ha acabado ganándose con creces a una afición que ofrecía serias dudas sobre sus capacidades.
Hat trick. Maxi Rodríguez pasó en pocas fechas de ser fondo de banquillo a un goleador en racha anotando dos hat-tricks frente a Birmingham City y Fulham, al que sumó un séptimo frente al Newcastle, anotando en 3 partidos seguidos.
Frenazo. El día clave se falló. El Tottenham se sobrepuso a su racha negativa de resultados y consiguió la victoria en Anfield que le ponía la clasificación prácticamente en bandeja a falta del último partido frente al Birmingham City. Precisamente en Birmingham, pero frente al Aston Villa, el Liverpool caía derrotado, diciendo adiós a las competiciones europeas el año que viene.
Supporter. La última imagen de la temporada, la ofreció Steven Gerrard que se trasladó al Villa Park para seguir las evoluciones del equipo en su intento de conseguir la clasificación europea, apoyando desde la grada como un supporter más. Un magnífico gesto del Capitán.
