El cáncer acaba con la vida del joven jugador de 23 años.
Un año y tres meses después de hacer pública su enfermedad y su consecuente retirada del fútbol, el cáncer ha ganado el partido de la vida de Miki Roqué. El que fuera jugador del Liverpool durante 4 temporadas ha fallecido en la tarde de hoy en Barcelona tras no superar una enfermedad que ha acabado con su vida de una manera fulminante y cruel.

Miki Roqué fue sometido a una intervención de su cáncer pélvico en mayo del año pasado en la prestigiosa Clínica Dexeus de Barcelona. Pese a que inicialmente la operación pareció resultar positiva, lo cierto es que el tumor pélvico no fue erradicado en su totalidad, reproduciéndose violenta y velozmente hasta acabar con la vida del joven jugador nacido en Tremp (Lleida) a la temprana edad de 23 años.
En marzo del 2011, Miki Roqué anunció en una emotiva rueda de prensa su abandono de la práctica futbolística debido a la detección de un tumor cancerígino en su zona pélvica. El por aquel entonces jugador del Real Betis Balompié, recibió el apoyo unánime de todo el mundo del fútbol que se volcó de inmediato con el joven defensa catalán.
Roqué llegó al Liverpool procedente de la Unió Esportiva Lleida en el año 2005, como un prometedor futbolista, bajo la dirección de Rafa Benítez, llegando a debutar con el primer equipo Red en la Champions League en un partido frente al Galatasaray. Oldham Athletic, Xerez, Cartagena y finalmente el Real Betis Balompié fueron otros equipos que defendiera.

Hoy Morientes comento que estuvo con él cuando Miki estaba en Melwood y que la primera temporada como no tenía botas Fernando le dejo las suyas para jugar.

Son las ocho de la mañana y en el Institut Universitari Dexeus empieza un nuevo día. Aunque no es un día más. Ayer tuvimos la peor guardia de mi corta vida profesional como médico. Ayer nos dejó para siempre un paciente modélico, una persona con grandes valores, un luchador nato, un gran deportista y sobretodo un amigo. Ayer nos dejó para siempre Miki Roqué.
Son muchos los momentos que he tenido el privilegio de compartir junto a ti durante estos últimos meses de tu vida y la verdad es que siempre los recordaré con mucho cariño. Ahora sé que ha valido la pena estudiar Medicina solamente por conocer a gente como tú. Echaré mucho de menos subir a tu habitación en las guardias y charlar contigo de fútbol y de tantas otras cosas… echaré de menos tus bromas… Y no sólo yo, ya que desde el primer día que entraste por la puerta te ganaste a todos los trabajadores de la Clínica, siempre con una sonrisa en la boca, sin un mal gesto hacia nadie y con una educación exquisita. Todos te echaremos mucho de menos…
Recuerdo aquel día en el que me dijiste que no creías en casualidades y de que estabas seguro que todo esto tenía que pasar, que el destino es caprichoso y te tenía deparado vivir esta experiencia para poder conocernos. Me dijiste también que habías aprendido muchas cosas con esta experiencia y que ahora le dabas importancia a detalles que antes ni valorabas… que valorabas la salud, que valorabas mucho más a tu familia… Lo que yo nunca te dije es que no te puedes llegar a imaginar las cosas que nosotros hemos aprendido de ti…y de tu familia…¡vaya lección de vida nos habéis dado!
Dicen que “de tal palo tal astilla” y nunca mejor dicho… tienes dos padres y una hermana que han dejado una huella imborrable en todos nosotros. Han demostrado hasta el último momento una entereza digna de elogio. Tu sobrino, el pequeño Biel que nacerá en Septiembre, estoy seguro que traerá a esta familia muchísima alegría y todo tu espíritu… Aquí estaremos nosotros para recibirlo y explicarle quién fue su tío.
De todas mis conversaciones contigo me quedo con una que jamás olvidaré. Me dijiste que siempre tendrías la pena de no haber cumplido tu sueño, haber debutado oficialmente en Primera División con el Betis. Jamás te contesté porque sé que no hubiera podido contener mis lágrimas pero ahora amigo mío, allí dónde estés, quiero que escuches mis palabras. Has sido no sólo un gran futbolista que hubiera conseguido seguro todo lo que te hubieras propuesto sino que, y lo más importante, has demostrado ser un HOMBRE de PRIMERA y un ejemplo para todos nosotros hasta el mismo momento de tu muerte. Para mí ése es el verdadero sueño cumplido y tú lo has conseguido. Has jugado el partido más importante de tu vida y lo has ganado, créeme que lo has ganado, porque has demostrado tener todos los valores que un gran deportista y una gran persona debe tener como son el coraje, la valentía, la superación personal, la humildad, la humanidad y el respeto. Allí dónde Dios te tenga, amigo, espérame porque algún día jugaremos juntos ese partido de fútbol que nunca pudimos jugar. Descansa en paz, Miki. Nunca te olvidaré.
