El defensor de Liverpool y Everton respectivamente Gary Ablett (link que le dedicamos en The Kid Torres) no pudo vencer a la lucha contra el cáncer, tras 16 meses de larga lucha en la noche del Domingo fallecía, tras diagnosticarle dicha enfermedad en 2010 cuando era ayudante en el Ipswich Town de Roy Keane, el ganador de dos Fa Cup con cada uno de los equipos de la ciudad de Liverpool a la vez de haber sido un gran jugador su trabajo con los equipos de cantera en los dos equipos de Liverpool fue sensacional. El mundo del fútbol nada más conocer la triste noticia está en estado de shock, su ex entrenador Roy Evans en declaraciones a Sky Sports decía “Es un gran shock. Obviamente sabemos que estaba hace algún tiempo enfermo. Es un día muy triste. Él era bueno en todo lo que hacía como jugador. Se fue a entrenar y dejo su sello personal en sus equipos, estaba haciendo un trabajo muy bueno, sin duda con los jóvenes. Me he quedado helado al enterarme esta mañana. Hace algo más de un año se conoció su enfermedad. Incluso le hicimos un post en el blog de The Kid Torres.
Lamentablemente el desenlace ha sido fulminante.
Le recuerdo jugando en defensa al lado del mítico Alan Hansen. O de Glenn Hysen, Venison o Burrows.
Era de los primeros equipos del Liverpool que se podia seguir con cierta regularidad gracias a las retransmisiones semanales de la liga inglesa en Televisión Española, con comentarios de Michael Robinson.
Un central técnico y muy alejado de la imagen de centrales ingleses rudos y con poca técnica.
